BACKGROUND
This company is a large multi-faceted international corporation with hundreds of plants world-wide. At this particular plant located in the southern U.S., they are manufacturing hydraulic torque housings (malleable iron) ranging from 2.5" dia. x 2.5" h to 5.5" dia. x 5.5"h. They recently purchased two (2) new machining centers at a total cost of 3.2 million dollars.
PROBLEM
A new cleaning system to remove water-based coolants, machining oils and chips for this application was needed for several reasons: a) the old cleaning method of platform agitation was time consuming and laborious b) the housings were not meeting the parts cleaning requirements due to chips in the blind holes that were not being removed, c) with this new machining equipment, the old cleaning method could not support the increased production of 2,000 per day, and d) because of the size of these new machining centers, a small cleaning system footprint was crucial.
SOLUTION
Incorporate a C-5000 Carousel system for each new machining center capable of automatically washing and drying 1,000 housings per machine, per day. As each housing completes a cycle, they are returned to the operator 100% clean and dry and ready for packaging. In addition, this Carousel unit has a small footprint which allowed for additional production space.
SYSTEM
Two (2) C-5000 Carousel systems with wash and dry cycles. The machines are equipped with specially rubber coated turntables, PLC's for machine monitoring, oil skimmers, regenerative blowers, and mist collectors to eliminate steam within the machine.
